Co-Founder of Girltrek

Morgan Dixon had a steady job, but she was overworking and neglecting her health. She started walking regularly to prepare for a 5K, but something inside changed as a result.

Morgan began to heal. She realized walking was a powerful antidote to many of the health challenges faced by those in her community, and she knew that the solution needed to scale. GirlTrek mobilizes Black women across the U.S. to improve their health and the lives of others in their communities.

Morgan knew firsthand how feelings of pain, fear, and powerlessness get embedded and passed down from generation to generation. Her commitment to overworking was an escape from deep emotional pain. Morgan and her co-founder, Vanessa Garrison, started GirlTrek, a groundbreaking national nonprofit that inspires and supports African American women and girls to live their healthiest, most fulfilled lives—simply by walking. Grounded in civil rights history and principles through walking campaigns, the organization is the largest health organization for Black women in the United States. With GirlTrek, Morgan has been recognized by CNN, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Essence Magazine, first lady Michelle Obama, and Oprah Winfrey. Morgan is a 2013 Echoing Green Fellow.
