Climate Change

Founder of the Gulf Coast Center for Law & Policy

In the Gulf South, communities of color have been disproportionately affected by natural disasters. Colette Pichon Battle is dismantling structural racism exacerbated by climate change.

Through regional, multi-racial alliances, the Gulf Coast Center for Law & Policy (GCCLP) supports and activates local communities to build strong, connected, resilient communities.

In 2015, Colette joined the Echoing Green community to accelerate GCCLP’s work building resilience within communities vulnerable to the effects of climate change. They provide the legal services communities need after disasters strike, equip individuals through leadership and rights trainings, connect disadvantaged communities throughout the south at regional gatherings, and engage community members and leaders to come together and create change. Colette aims to build a new model for living in harmony with land that is rooted in indigenous and African traditions and empowers communities to collaboratively build a more equitable and resilient future. Colette is a 2015 Echoing Green Fellow.
